Capturing Rob & Kelsey's Magical Surprise Proposal at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood, Oregon


Planning a surprise proposal is no small feat—especially when it’s at the top of Mt. Hood’s Magic Mile. But Rob had a vision, and I was more than excited to help him bring it to life for his girlfriend, Kelsey. As a down-to-earth photographer who thrives on adventure, working with Rob to plan this epic moment was such an incredible experience.

Let me take you behind the scenes of how it all went down. Spoiler alert: Kelsey said YES!

Months in the Making: Planning the Perfect Proposal

Rob reached out to me a few months before the big day with a simple but exciting idea: to propose to Kelsey at the top of Magic Mile on Mt. Hood, Oregon. Together, we hatched a plan to make the moment as seamless as it was unforgettable.

We worked on every detail, from timing the proposal to making sure the stunning backdrop of Mt. Jefferson and the ski lift was perfectly framed in the shot. I planned to be at the top of the mountain, camera ready but blending in as a casual tourist. My role? To look like I was simply enjoying the wintery beauty of Mt. Hood, completely oblivious to Rob and Kelsey.


On the day of the proposal, everything fell into place. Rob led Kelsey to the exact spot we had planned, while I pretended to be snapping photos of the scenery. When the moment came, he dropped to one knee, and I captured the look of pure surprise and joy on Kelsey’s face.

The mountain air was crisp, the sun was shining, and the scene was nothing short of magical. Kelsey’s emphatic “YES” echoed across the snow as I clicked away, capturing every second of this beautiful moment.

Celebrating in Style

After the proposal, we didn’t just call it a day. Oh no—this was a celebration! The three of us strapped on our snowboards and rode down the mountain together. I snapped photos of Rob and Kelsey carving turns as a freshly engaged couple, their smiles radiating pure happiness.

We then took some time to explore the historic Timberline Lodge. We said hello to Bruno, the adorable St. Bernard and beloved mascot of Timberline, before settling on the lodge’s patio for a well-deserved cocktail. The warm sunshine, snowy mountain views, and joyful energy made it the perfect ending to an unforgettable day.
